- Two players or teams need two Sequences; three need one.

## Frequently asked questions

**How do you win Sequence?**

Two players or teams need two Sequences; three players or teams need one. A Sequence is five of your chips in a row, across, down or diagonal. See [how to play](https://sequence.stratzagames.com/how-to-play.md).

**Which jacks are one-eyed and which are two-eyed?**

Spades and hearts are one-eyed (remove a chip). Clubs and diamonds are two-eyed (place a chip on any open space).

**Can a one-eyed jack remove a chip from a completed Sequence?**

No. Chips in a completed Sequence are locked.

**Can you play a two-eyed jack on a corner?**

No. Corners already count for everyone; play the jack on any open non-corner space.

**What is a dead card in Sequence?**

A card whose two spaces are both taken. Discard it, draw a replacement, and play again.

**Can two Sequences share a chip?**

Yes, one chip. A straight line of nine of your chips counts as two Sequences.

**How many cards does each player get?**

7 for 2 players, 6 for 3 or 4, 5 for 6, 4 for 8 or 9, 3 for 10 or 12. Every mode here deals 6. Details: [rules by number of players](https://sequence.stratzagames.com/sequence-rules-players.md).

**How many people can play Sequence?**

From 2 to 12, in two or three equal teams once you pass three players.

**What does the Sequence board look like?**

A 10×10 grid with every card except the jacks shown twice, plus four free corners. See the [full board layout](https://sequence.stratzagames.com/sequence-board-layout.md).

**How long does a game of Sequence take?**

Usually 15 to 30 minutes for two players. Online games with a turn clock are often faster.

**What happens if the deck runs out?**

Here, if the deck runs out before anyone wins, the game is a draw.

**Is Sequence a game of luck or skill?**

Both. The draw is luck; choosing spaces, blocking and timing jacks is skill. Start with our [strategy tips](https://sequence.stratzagames.com/sequence-strategy.md).
