# Sequence rules for 2, 3, 4 or more players

> Sequence is played by **2 to 12 players**. With more than three, everyone plays in two or three equal teams. The number of players changes three things: **teams**, **how many cards to deal**, and **how many Sequences win**.

## Quick reference

| Players | Teams | Cards each | Sequences to win |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | Head to head | 7 | 2 |
| 3 | Each player alone | 6 | 1 |
| 4 | 2 teams of 2 | 6 | 2 |
| 6 | 2 teams of 3, or 3 teams of 2 | 5 | 2 (two teams) or 1 (three teams) |
| 8 | 2 teams of 4 | 4 | 2 |
| 9 | 3 teams of 3 | 4 | 1 |
| 10 | 2 teams of 5 | 3 | 2 |
| 12 | 2 teams of 6, or 3 teams of 4 | 3 | 2 (two teams) or 1 (three teams) |

Groups of 5, 7 or 11 cannot split into equal teams. Sit one player out, or play with one more or one fewer.

## How many Sequences do you need to win?

- **Two players or two teams:** two Sequences.
- **Three players or three teams:** one Sequence.

A Sequence is five chips of your colour in a row: across, down or diagonal. The free corners count for everyone, and your two Sequences may share one chip.

## 2 players

The classic head-to-head game. Each player gets seven cards, and you need two Sequences. With only one opponent, every block matters: you see each threat coming, and so do they. ## 3 players

Everyone plays for themselves with six cards, and **one** Sequence wins. Games are faster and more chaotic, because two opponents can block you, but they also block each other.

## 4 or more players: team play

- Split into two or three teams of the same size. Each team uses one chip colour.
- Sit so that teams alternate around the table, and play passes to the left.
- You may not tell teammates what is in your hand or where to play. Plan around their chips instead.
- Any player on a team can finish a Sequence with chips their teammates placed.
